Position Overview: The technician is responsible for laboratory specialty metals Refining Production.  Will provide all required technical support for efficient laboratory function.  Conduct chemical and physical analysis using fundamental chemical understanding.  Willingness to get hands dirty and work in sometimes extreme working conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Refine specialty metals using chemical and electrolytic methods. 70%
  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. 5%
  • Use scientific rules and methods to solve problems in production. 10%
  • Ability to monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly. 5%
  • Follow routine tasks accurately and abide by strict methodologies to complete analysis. 5%
  • Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced. Order and inventory materials to maintain production supplies. 5%
  • Keep up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and refining team.
  • Write standard operating procedures.
  • Balance multiple projects and oversee their completion from start to finish.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Physics preferred but not required.
  • Requires two years of laboratory experience in a chemical processing or manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Requires experience with wet chemical techniques, especially those involving inorganic materials.
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and through documentation.
  • Lifting is required occasionally up to 50lbs.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with an XRF Spectrometer preferred but not required.
  • Professional training and understanding of OSHA compliance requirements preferred but not required.
Starting Hourly Rate: $17.00 (based on experience)
